Delicate and defiant... the kind of husky ethereality that can stop you in your tracks.

The album cover: Ashford’s parents in 1975

Short Pitch:

Grief and gentle optimism.

But also, some of the songs are bangers.

Praise for TROTTER

"Profoundly moving…”
Last Day Deaf

"Beautifully orchestrated and utterly exposed, it’s a raw reckoning of visceral emotion – a soft, yet incredibly hard-hitting eruption from the artist’s innermost sanctum."
Atwood Magazine

"… a mystical middle ground between Americana, jazz, and the slightest flavours of Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks. Profoundly moving but never maudlin as it examines choices made and opportunities lost."
AnalogueTrash

“beguilingly rich”
- Various Small Flames

“captivating”
- Obscure Sound

“hauntingly beautiful”

The Album Story

When my father slipped away in the small hours of an October morning I had little time to grieve. Contractually obligated to perform, it would be months before I would sleep in my own bed and years before the weight of his loss would truly hit me.

An unblinking mediation on grief and regret with a touch of optimism; it’s my hope that listeners might find some solace in the work.

Trotter is my given family name, my father’s name. So I’m calling this album Trotter. You can hear him singing the folk song Four Strong Winds at the 4:36 mark on Where Do We Go.

Assets

A video that features the rise and fall of fictional wrestling sweetheart, Kitty Lynn Houston, played by Ashford, set to Could've Done You Better. Directed by Christopher Guerrero.

Directed by Kelly Mena, this video received funding from the the NYFA Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre.

Hold On Tight is the second single off the record. While the album is centered around finality and making regrettable decisions, thing song approaches these “regrettable” choices with bounce and ease. I try not to take myself too seriously.
